Marie Black Leopard
She came to us as a retired breeder cat that was no longer useful
and was going to be put down. Upon arriving to pick her up it quickly
became apparent she was also abused by her caregiver. She wanted
to kill him and he also used water in a negative way and she hates
water. Soon she settled in her new home and appeared happy as a
house cat, that is until she could allure you closer and you would
quickly realize she is a wild animal.
King & Sasha African Black Mane
Lions
Brother and sister came to us at four months old from North Carolina.
They were extremely calcium deficient and had very poor bone density
as well as numerous other medical issues. They were weaned to early
due to a shortage of food, having to fight the mother for road-kill
deer. After arriving to their new home and having medical treatment
and many calcium and vitamin supplements they are two beautiful
teenagers. Sasha was also fixed to prevent any breeding from her
brother in the future. King is just now getting his famous mane
it takes 5 years to fully mature.
Luther & Cassie Black Jaguar
and Spotted Jaguar
Luther and Cassie were both kept in very small cages without the
ability to jump, which caused many conditions including poor muscle
development in their rear legs. They were unable to jump up or run.
After medical treatment and a cage designed with a slant that helped
to develop rear leg muscles similar to the ones need to jump. They
are now able to jump up and run.
Moosafa & Clearence Bengal Tigers
At three months old Florida Fish confiscated the brothers. They
were brought from Texas into the State of Florida illegally. They
have been fixed to keep the brothers from fighting.
Roy and Reba Bengal Tiger and White Bengal Tiger
These tigers were exhibited tigers till they became to old at 6
months old to be in contact with the public. They are in good health
and get along together. Reba is a white tiger, which is a white
tiger with (brown) stripe.
Sherman & Savannah African Servals
The brother and sister are from Savannah Georgia. Their previous
owners needed to find a new home for them due to their parents loosing
their company and home and having to move in with them and the servals
not accepting of strangers. They were healthy but we have Savannah
fixed so that there would be no inner breeding between brother and
sister. They are famous from Egypt worshiped them and used them
for rat control.
Dakota and Shania North American Black Bears
Dakota came to us having seizures and was completely unable to stand
on his feet. After being treated by UF he has fully recovered and
is a wonderful teenage boy who loves to play fight with Shania.
She is a digger and due to her habits we had to cement the entire
habitat. They do hibernate lightly in the winter, which they will
sleep for a day or two and hardly defecate or eat. But they sure
make up for lost time in the spring.
Junior Japanese Snow Macaque
Junior was brought to Florida illegally at 4 weeks of age. But,
Junior is a very special monkey in which he set records in the primate
world. He was treated at UF for lasoma and is the only monkey to
be diagnosed alive and to survive the disease. It was a miracle
that he has survived. It delayed his development but he is making
up for lost time. He is extremely smart and protective of his stuff.
He is also shy to strangers and most times will hide.
Joy Japanese Snow Macaque
She is a rescue from hurricane Ivan. The owners were hit hard and
were up in age and unable to continue to care for all their animals.
We took her in at the age of 3 months. She is very independent and
loving at the same time.
Charlie Black Top Capuchin
Charlie is a female capuchin nearing the end of her life. She is
43 years old and in good health. She came to us at the age of 39
years old. Her previously owner was nearing 80 years old and was
concerned for her welfare if something was to happen to her. She
had raised her as her child since she never had any. Unfortunately
she was on a limited income and fed her mostly raw hotdogs, eggs
and peanut butter. After coming to us she and with the improved
diet her fur has thickened and the brown color returned. She gets
upset around strangers who get to close to her cage which is to
be expected since she had little contact with people.
Laverne & Shirley Squirrel Monkeys
Laverne is an older monkey who has cateracts and Shirley is a younger
monkey whom lost an arm and tail and has a bad finger on her only
good arm from a dog attack. They were in a 100+ breeding colony
and could not compete for food. They came to us grey and ribs showing,
also showing aggression with each other. After being put on a good
diet with plenty of food they having retained the weight needed
as well as the golden rust color fur has thickened up. But most
of all they are best of friends and eat and sleep together with
no aggression towards each other.
Bravo Java Macaque
Bravo was from a research facility and then placed in a breeding
facility. Then sold again, in which he seriously injured to female
macaques and killed one. This is extremely rare for macaques, they
are very protective of their females in a troop. In stead of sending
him to another breeding facility and taking a chance of him killing
another female he came to us for retirement. He has adapted well
in his new home.
Baboo Cotton Top Tamarian
He was born as a twin in whom his mother killed and tried to kill
him and ended biting his tail off. He is a one-person monkey and
very protective of his cage.
Gabby Florida Panther
She is a female panther that was kept in a small cage at a roadside
zoo that was shut down. She is very friendly except when
she bites.
Jazzy Western Cougar
She was from a zoo that was shut down and slated for euthanasia
when the Easter seals camp of Alabama rescued her but only had funding
for one year. Within a few weeks of the deadline she came to us.
Blaze & Mucghee Brown Lemurs
The two brothers were brought to us due to the owner dying from
HIV and needing a home for his monkeys. The younger of the two is
sociable but the older one is extremely aggressive.
Fifi Striped Skunk
She is a descanted skunk who is very nocturnal but does interact
some during the day. She grew up and became to much for an inside
pet. She is very happy in her outdoor maze.
Cocoo Spot-nosed Coatimundi
After becoming mature coatis become very aggressive and do
not make good pets. They bite and become unpredictable. He is handled
with ship systems only. He is extremely fast and smart and always
on the attack.
Blondie White Raccoon
Blondie came to us when she bites several family members and became
to hard to care for. She is extremely overweight due to the cereal
diet she was on. She is otherwise in good health. She is white with
brown stripes. The white coloring is a genetically breed animal
that usually comes with many health issues.
Wilberette Pot Bellied Pig
She came to us a 4 months old and is extremely sociable.
Marvin and Terry Emus
Terry is a full grown aggressive male who almost killed and maimed
Marvin who was a younger chick. Due to Marvins handicap he
gets to walk the property.
Iguana
He was brought to us from the mother of a college student who went
off to college. She was extremely scared and unable to care for
the 6-foot iguana. We gladly took it in.
Prairie Dogs
We took in the first two dogs after Hurricane Francis destroyed
the cage and the owner were unable to continue to care for them.
The second two were abandoned at our facility and were in very bad
health. But after a long and complicated recovery they are in good
shape.
African Spurred Tortoise
He was found walking down a busy road. Due to not being native to
Florida he was brought to our facility. He weighs about 60 pounds.
Argentina Black & White Tegu Lizard
She was shot in the head when she was caught in the hen house stealing
eggs. We have taken her in because there is open season on these
beautiful lizards and she has been through enough.
